BOOK ME FOR A TALK

Virtual is the way to go! I work just as hard to make sure my virtual presentation is interactive and informative.
Here are a few of the kinds of presentations that I do.

SCHOOL, LIBRARY, AND BOOKCLUB READINGS:

I have spoken in hundreds of schools and libraries to thousands of young people. My readings revolve around a slide presentation and talk. Using wonderful historical slides pertaining to each of my novels, I weave my stories around the historical events of the Second World War and the Holocaust. These presentations are appropriate for students in grades 4 through 10. Each presentation is approximately one hour.

FOR ADULTS:

I have written several adult books that I love to talk about. But all of the book presentations that I do for young people can be adapted to an adult audience. In addition, I speak to adults about the lessons that I've learned from the many Holocaust survivors I've had the privilege of meeting and interviewing.

WRITING THE STORIES YOU LOVE TO READ:

I do workshops on the writing process with smaller groups of students. Children will learn the elements of good story writing and will begin to create their own stories.

TEACHING SENSITIVE MATERIAL TO YOUNG READERS: THE HOLOCAUST AND CHILDREN’S LITERATURE:

I have developed a series of workshops for teachers and educators that focus on teaching sensitive material to young people. Using principals that assist in teaching sensitive topics, and an extensive reading list, I am able to make this difficult material accessible and relevant for children.

CONTINUING EDUCATION – WRITING FOR CHILDREN:

For the past ten years I have taught a course in Writing for Children at the University of Toronto – School of Continuing Studies. This ten week course covers all the elements of good story writing. The first hour of each class is lecture format. In the second hour students are expected to bring their own writing in for group critique.

"I have welcomed Ms. Kacer as a guest author in my graduate seminar in adolescent and children’s literature.  Ms. Kacer connects immediately with her audience, and students consistently report that her author presentations have been a highlight of these courses.”

Karen A. Krasny, Director, Graduate Program in Education, York University

"I have been lucky enough to have Kathy come visit my students at three different schools in the York Region District School Board. Each time, her enthusiasm, knowledge and obvious passion for her subjects has made her a favorite speaker for my students."

— Ilana Green, teacher

"Kathy has been visiting Toronto French School for the last eight years. I have personally been present for all eight presentations and each time I listen with awe, and marvel at the fortitude of the people involved.  Kathy evokes this emotion as a speaker.

— Jean Fitzgerald, teacher
